Job Summary:

Purchasing Agents specialize in finding goods and services for businesses at the best price to ensure the businesses' continued functionality. This can include supplies, inventory, tools, parts and large scale machine and machine equipment purchases. These specialists are counted on to meet budgetary constraints and increase profitability by performing the following:

 

Responsibilities

Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interfaces with Purchasing manager and product line project managers to plan and prioritize purchasing activities
  • Reviews planned orders, creates requisitions for purchased items, and manages approval process
  • Transmits and prioritizes approved purchase orders and supporting documents to supplier
  • Prepares purchase orders and solicits bid proposals, as well as review requests for goods while making sure items' suppliers offer appropriate pricing, selection, support, and reliability. Reviews, updates, and maintains purchase orders until they are closed
  • Tracks order acknowledgement, prepares and communicates shortage and backlog reports, and provides visibility of potential interruptions to internal customers
  • Tracks orders and confirms system lead times, delivery dates, and costs
  • Ensures orders adhere to supplier agreements and contracts; reports nonconformance
  • May manage supplier audits and measurement systems
  • Works closely with the Quality department to audit supplier processes
  • Work closely with suppliers to measure performance such as on-time delivery, quality reports and pricing
  • Creates metrics to evaluate and measure supplier performance and quality
  • Maintains SAP Material Management parameters to efficiently manage the stock level and safety stocks.
  • Researches new suppliers and negotiates contracts
  • Works with managers, project engineers, production planners and executives within the company to engage in machine, parts, and capital projects
  • Leads finance and logistics staff in resolving invoice discrepancies
  • Identifies opportunities and implements actions to achieve efficiencies
  • Contributes to consolidation, reduction, and rationalization of the local supplier base
  • Follows all local laws and regulations related to purchasing and selling items, as well as negotiating and renegotiating contracts with vendors or suppliers as necessary
  • May be required to assess the performance of suppliers in responding to demands, develops long term relationships, or recommends termination for those who are detrimental to the well-being of the company
  • May train new or level I and II Purchasing staff on department processes and procedures

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience in Related Field, Skills, etc.):

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline with 5-7 years of related experience in purchasing; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Requires intermediate to advanced level skills associated with SAP (or similardatabase/business information systems), Microsoft Office and internet research skills
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of sourcing and Purchasing techniques
  • Proven talent in negotiations and networking skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of business, and reconcile differences in understanding and vision
  • Ability to use diplomacy to keep various groups within a company on the same page and working towards the same goals
  • Must have experience in customer relations – assists in solving customer problems
  • Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data
  • Must be very detailed, organized and capable of managing large volumes of data in minimal time

 

Preferred Qualifications (Certificates, Training, Licenses, and Experience):

  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) Certification
  • Knowledge of grinding machines and grinding machine parts and services.

 

  • Purchasing operations experience in the machine tool industry
  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) Certification
  • SPSM (Senior Professional in Supply Management) Certification
  • Lean systems processes (i.e., Six-Sigma) knowledge and experience
  • German and/or Spanish language skills
  • Supervisory experience
